About McCloud
McCloud is a historic mill town, located at
the foot of Mt. Shasta, a majestic,
snow-capped double mountain peak.  The
area is a mecca for skiing, hiking, kayaking,
mountaineering, canoing, square dancing
and many other activities - including just
contemplating the beautiful scenery.

McCloud was a company owned lumber mill
town, built between 1880 and 1920.  The
town's buildings were sold to individual
owners beginning in the late 1960s, who
have restored and maintained the historic
character of their town.
McCloud is home to the Victorian McCloud
Hotel (
www.mccloudhotel.com), the Shasta
Sunset Dinner Train
(
www.shastasunset.com), several bed and
breakfast inns, and the McCloud River
Mercantile Building.  The Mercantile
Building was the company store for the
mills.

Now restored, the Mercantile is home to
the McCloud Book Gallery.  Local
residents are also trying to preserve the
old McCloud Mill, one of the last surviving
historic lumber mills in California.
